‘The West Wing’ Actor Rob Lowe Just Cut Down the Price For His Montecito Mansion–Check It Out And See If It’s A Great Deal
While some celebrities have seemingly mastered the real estate market through years of experience, they still run into some troubles selling properties every now and then. Case in point is 55-year-old actor Rob Lowe, who reportedly decided to cut down the asking price for his Montecito estate by millions after first putting it on the market.
The Next Adventure
The actor lived in the home with his wife Sheryl and their two sons, Matthew Edward and John Owen
According to People magazine, the 10,000 square feet property was originally priced at a whopping $47 million. It’s now listed at a lower $42.5 million after Lowe and his wife, Sheryl, decided to switch listing agents.
Located in Montecito, the family home boasts of having equally popular neighbors as its residents such as former the United States Vice President Al Gore, and television personalities Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres.
Given its fantastic location, some may wonder why the couple is eager to part with the home. Their decision seems to be a mix between the fact that their two sons are no longer in the house as well as the devastating Southern California mudslides that threatened the area. While the home was left unharmed by the disaster due to its high altitude, the Lowe family were reportedly on high alert during the duration of the mudslides.
In the end, the ‘Parks and Recreation’ actor said that he and his wife are now looking forward towards their next ‘real estate adventure’.
Oakview Estate
A glimpse at the Georgian-style manor’s formal living room
Dubbed as Oakview, the home features six bedrooms and 11 bathrooms. Hoping to capture Lowe’s childhood days in the Virginia countryside, the couple worked with a team of designers and architects to give their family home their own personal touch.
They even hired David Cho, a feng shui master, to fulfill the project. Speaking with Architectural Digest back in 2010, the actor said that their goal was to extend his and his wife’s views on living and parenting with their needs in a home.
And so, Oakview was finished complete with amenities such as two kitchens (a family one and a commercial one), a home office and even its own home theater. Outside, one can find various facilities for different diversions such as a swimming pool, a tennis court, an outdoor kitchen and a koi pond.
A Mix of History & Modernity
One of the more modern aspects of the home is its screening theater.
Lowe also stated his preference for a more historic and East Coast-inspired aesthetic for the home while still ensuring that they end up with a home his family can truly live in. And it looks like he and his wife succeeded.
Their former listing handler Suzanne Perkins actually described Oakview as showing ‘equal appreciation for history and modernity’. She also said that the Lowe family home was able to create a house that blends the perks of new construction with the architectural character that compares with its neighboring historic estates.
